Overview

New to Canada?

As a newcomer, you can access a variety of programs and services at the Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood Centre, such as:

  • Getting help to look for work by attending  Newcomer Job Search Workshops
  • Meeting with a Settlement Counsellor to support your immigration and settlement issues
  • Bringing your preschool child to Ready for School Connects to learn about the Canadian elementary education system.
 
Settlement


You can get help from our Settlement Counsellor who provides assistance and referrals to both documented and undocumented newcomers to Canada about:

  • Immigration
  • Housing
  • Health
  • Education
  • Other resources in the community.

Service is available in both English and Spanish, and clients will be required to fill out a registration and intake form.

Job Search Workshops

If you are new to the Canadian workforce, are a landed immigrant or Convention refugee and have been living in Canada for less than three years, the Job Search Workshop Program (JSW) will provide you with information and tools to enhance your job search.  Some of the areas covered in the workshops include, resume development, the hidden job market and networking.  After completing the workshops, JSW clients will also receive extensive individual support in their job search.  Pre-registration is required.

Ready For School Connects

Is your family Ready for School? Ready for School Connects is a program for newcomers and their children to help ease the transition to school in Canada.

Parents can learn more about the Canadian school system and how to help their children prepare for school. Children can improve their English, make friends, and build their independence skills.

  • 2 week summer programs
  • Healthy Child Screening events
  • Follow-up once the children have started school
  • Training for community partners
