Adult Services

If you are an adult in the DPNC community and looking for information on programs and services available to you such as job search, upgrading literacy skills,  nutritious meals and the opportunity to meet others in the community, then the Adult Services Department is the place to find these and more!  Please take a look at the list of programs to find the ones that are of interest to you.

How to register: Please refer to the list of programs offered by the Adult Services department for information on how to register.  Some programs do not require any registration.

Crisis Intervention

If you are looking for assistance, support and/or information on critical issues such as housing, social assistance, education and health, you can make an appointment to meet with our Community Support and Crisis Intervention Worker.

Community Dining

Come and enjoy a meal with friends and meet others in the community. No registration is required.

  • Wednesdays – 5-6pm, Perth Hall, DPNC main floor

** In the fall and winter months (November until end of April) the program offers an additional Monday evening meal at 5pm.

Drop-Ins

This program provides adults in the community with access to a variety of social, recreational and educational activities.  It’s a great opportunity to meet others who live in the area and get information on other programs at DPNC and the Davenport area. No registration is required.

  • Mondays and Thursdays from 1-4 pm at 1900 Davenport Road

Literacy

The DPNC Literacy program offers adults the opportunity to upgrade reading, writing, math and basic computer skills.   Program staff will meet with you to assess your learning goals and develop a learning plan. You can work individually with a tutor or in a small group setting at your own pace.  There are afternoon and evening classes available.  Registration is required.

  • Monday to Thursday from 2-4 pm, and 7-9pm

Job Search Workshop

If you are new to the Canadian workforce, are a landed immigrant or Convention refugee and have been living in Canada for less than three years, the Job Search Workshop Program (JSW) will provide you with information and tools to enhance your job search.  Some of the topics covered in the workshops include: resume development, the hidden job market and networking.  After completing the workshops, JSW clients will also receive extensive one-to one support in their job search.  Pre-registration is required.

Settlement

Our Settlement Counsellor provides assistance and referrals to both documented and undocumented newcomers to Canada.  Services include: information and referral regarding immigration, housing, health, education and other resources in the community.  Service is available in English and Spanish.  Settlement clients will be required to fill out a registration and intake form.

Street Outreach

The Street Outreach team takes to the streets twice a week to reach out to people in the community who are experiencing homelessness, addictions and other issues.  Team members provide support, information on how to use safely, and provide clean equipment and referrals.  No registration required.

  • Tuesdays in the Bloor and Lansdowne area 3-7pm between April to September
  • 6pm between October to March
  • Wednesdays in the St Clair and Oakwood area 11 – 3pm.

Substance Abuse Support

This 12-step program is for those who are struggling with drug and alcohol dependency.  This program is supported by the St Vincent de Paul Society.  No registration required.

Community Arts

Arts4All, at Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood Centre, was founded in 2001. Following the highly successful 2004 production of Once A Shoreline, the project has become an ongoing and valued part of the life of the Centre.

 

Arts4All’s 2009/10 season includes:

  • Regular Monday afternoon workshops – everyone welcome!
  • Multi-arts workshops with existing DPNC programs
  • Hosting of Jumblies Studio Workshops, Seminars & Internships
  • Workshops and activities at Pelham Park (Toronto Community Housing)
  • Special projects in giant puppetry, theatre, radio drama & more
  • Collaboration & paticipation in Jumblies themes and events
